We’ve set up a taste-of-summer celebration in celebration of all things Cointreau.
The luscious orange liqueur, a key ingredient in the iconic Margarita cocktail, is 170-years-old this year - and we thought that was a pretty good excuse for an all-summer birthday party!
The magnificent Margarita, a delicious mix of Cointreau, tequila and lime, headlines our menu of Cointreau-based drinks available at the celebration.
One of the earliest stories about the invention of the Margarita dates back to 1938. A Mexican restaurant owner is said to have created it for his glamorous customer, former Ziegfeld showgirl Marjorie King, who was allergic to many spirits but not to tequila.
Another story has wealthy American socialite Margarita Sames coming up with the cocktail for a fabulous party she threw in Acapulco in 1948.
Or it may have been named for actress Rita Hayworth – real name Margarita Cansino – who enjoyed the concoction while performing in Tijuana in the ‘40s.
Ponder the origin of this great cocktail as you relax with one in our pop-up bar this summer!
